That is a good question but a big one and a hard one to answer.
First of all, I don't know how many people on this site like punk and now I'm curious. Second, the venues depend on where you are in the US and what kinds of bands you're hoping to see.
In Utah, you'd have to go to one of the smaller clubs probably since the scene is kind of small here, unless you want to see a bigger band. In that case you'd have to go to one of the crappy makeshift show halls they try to pass off as usable or one of the huge corporate venues. That's my experience here.
New York and California seem to be good places for a show still and most major metro areas have good venues now but I'm in Pleasant Grove right now so... yeah.
